How to create a source in a project on Aragorn

This guide explains how to create a source connection inside a data project in Aragorn AI. A source is how Aragorn pulls employee data from your HRIS into a project.

What is a source?

A source is the system where your employee data originates—an HRIS (Workday, UKG, ADP), payroll provider, ATS, compliance system, spreadsheet, or SFTP server. Aragorn AI pulls data via APIs, file transfers, SCIM, or manual uploads.

Sources fall into three categories:

Type

Purpose

Primary data source

Main provider of employee records for integrations

Restricted data view

Filtered subset of a primary source (limited fields or records)

Supplementary data source

Additional data that enriches a primary source (for example, cost centers)

Aragorn AI standardizes incoming data inside your project so integrations read a consistent field interface.

Prerequisites

  • Access to Aragorn Integration Studio

  • HRIS connection credentials (API key, client ID/secret, or vendor-provided credentials)

  • A data project created (or in the process of being created)

Create a source in a project

1. Open Data Projects

  1. Log in to your Aragorn AI platform.

  2. Click the Data Projects icon in the left sidebar.

2. Create or open a project

  • Existing project: Open the project and click the + button to add a new source.

3. Select your HRIS platform

  1. Use the search bar on the source selection screen to find your platform.

  2. Click the system that holds your data (for example, Workday, UKG, or ADP).

4. Enter connection credentials

Provide the credentials Aragorn AI needs to read data from your HRIS.

Credential type

Notes

API keys / client ID & secret

Often created in the HRIS admin console

Vendor-issued credentials

Some systems (for example, certain ADP setups) require contacting your HRIS representative

Click Create data source when credentials are entered.

5. Name the project and source

In the modal:

  1. Enter a clear project name (for example, Employees or All Employee Profiles).

  2. Add a brief description for your team.

  3. Click Create data source to finalize.

Why sources live inside projects

Integrations connect to the project’s standardized fields, not directly to the HRIS. If you later migrate HRIS systems, you reconfigure the source inside the same project while integrations keep working—as long as the standardized field interface stays consistent.
